Compensation is a lump sum or periodic payment for a personal injury that is at least in part for the cost of supports the NDIS may fund. We account for compensation to avoid duplicating funding of the types of supports provided for in your compensation payment.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 (NDIS Act) and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Supports for Participants – Accounting for Compensation) Rules 2013 (Compensation Rules) guide how we account for compensation you may be entitled to or have received.

This section has information to help you and your authorised representative(s) understand compensation in the NDIS context.

You can find detailed information and guidance about compensation in our Compensation Operational Guideline.

If there is any inconsistency between the Compensation Operational Guideline and this information, you should use the Compensation Operational Guideline to support your decisions.
