NDIS Fraud Taskforce arrest

A 22 year-old Bendigo man has been charged by the NDIS Fraud Taskforce with eight offences of allegedly attempting to defraud the Scheme of close to $500,000.

The NDIS Fraud Taskforce is a multi-agency partnership between the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the NDIA and the Department of Human Services, with a focus on high risk and serious criminal activity targeting the NDIS.

The four-month NDIS Taskforce investigation identified the alleged fraud, believed to have occurred between December 2017 and June 2018, with around 30 NDIS participants across a number of states affected.

Parallel to the investigation, the NDIA has worked with the participants affected, to ensure funds were reinstated in their plans, as appropriate.

Fraud is a crime. The NDIA would like to reassure participants, their families and carers that Taskforce activities are the result of work by a range of agencies committed to preventing, identifying and investigating fraud, and we will not tolerate the misuse of funds intended to support people with disability.

Anyone with concerns that fraud is being committed against the NDIS should contact the NDIS fraud hotline on 1800 650 717.
