The Autism Advisory Group (AAG) met 25 October 2024 for the fifth meeting this year. The meeting was held online.
Focus of the meeting
The October meeting covered:
- Update from the NDIA on legislation implementation
- Frontline Capability
- Guidelines working group
NDIA Update – legislation and reforms
Deputy CEO for the NDIA, Corri McKenzie, shared information with the group regarding the changes to the legislation which became effective from the 3rd of October.
Ms Prue Coroneos, General Manager Policy, Evidence and Practice Leadership outlined the approach to implementation of the legislation. Ms Coroneos outlined the particular focus on direct communication with participants and information on how the changes will immediately affect people.
Members advised that they are still receiving feedback from the community on issues with the National Contact Centre, regarding lack of knowledge and understanding and communication back to people.
Frontline Capability
Ms. Liz Parkinson, Branch Manager, Branch Manager - Frontline Capability and Ms. Kirsty Cameron, Director Branch Manager - Frontline Capability, provided a presentation on the Frontline of the Future Project. Members provided feedback on considerations for working with those with autism.
Guidelines working group
Ms Corri McKenzie sought agreement from the group on the revised Terms of Reference and the proposed members of a time limited Working Group that will support the Agencies implementation of the National Autism Guidelines. Ms. Coroneos will chair the group, and there will be a Co-chair with lived experience appointed.
