The Autism Advisory Group (AAG) met 13 August 2024 for the fourth meeting this year. The meeting was held online.
Focus of the meeting
The August meeting covered:
- Update from the NDIA on legislation and reforms
- Discussion on the development of a workplan
NDIA Update – legislation and reforms
Deputy CEO for the NDIA, Corri McKenzie, shared information with the group regarding the upcoming legislation changes and the public consultations available. Ms Mckenzie also shared information regarding the work the NDIA is doing to further plan NDIS reforms.
Members provided feedback to the NDIA to incorporate principles in this work and how their organisations could support communication and engagement to ensure NDIS reforms include the perspectives of autistic people.
Autism Advisory Group Workplan
AAG members discussed the priority work for the group for the rest of 2024 and into 2025. The discussion highlighted several potential priorities including NDIA workforce capability, better communication tailored to meet the needs of autistic people and influencing the development of legislative rules to ensure they include the perspectives of autistic people and their families.
