Our organisation is a SIL provider. Is ILO relevant to my organisation?
Some Supported Independent Living (SIL) residents may be ready now to make a change to their living arrangement. The inclusion of ILO – Explore and Design funding in their NDIS plan means they can consider and choose alternatives.
The NDIA expects many SIL providers will add ILO to the services they offer NDIS participants.
As an independent organisation there are strategic decisions you will need to make about the future of the services you offer. Looking closely at all the possible service offerings is good practice for both individuals and organisations.
What role does a Support Coordinator play in an ILO?
Support Coordinators may facilitate the exploration and design stage of an ILO. The key competencies of a Support Coordinator who does this include, but are not limited to:
- experience with person-centred practice
- experience providing alternatives for primary and supplementary supports that make up the ILO
- ability to facilitate access to, and coordination of, community resources, services and other government service systems.
Support Coordinators will need to register to provide ILO Exploration and Design services (under registration category 0106).
